The Tascam 388 is the coolest Reel to Reel Tape Recorder ever made.

If you love vintage tape decks, analog reel to reel's and even portastudio tape recorders, then you've probably heard of the Tascam 388.

I have been using my Tascam 388 for a few years now. I found a broken 388 on craigslist, I drove very far to retrieve it, and I've been in love with it ever since. I've had the opportunity to work with all kinds of analog outboard gear, vintage preamps, compressors, and bigger tape machines like the Tascam 38... The 388 is one of those rare units that has it's own magicalsound. It's not as lo fi as a tape recorder, and it's not as Hi Fi as the wider tape machines. I've heard people describe it as mid fi. The 388 is a mixer and reel to reel deck, with a powerful EQ, all self contained on a small 1/4 inch tape package, and it loves to be pushed into distortion! It's a great machine.

He doesn’t get over complicated and will have you playing guitar like we all dream we can. Check out his site and decide for yourself but trust me you won’t go wrong..” -Bill Engvall (Comedian)”
